Sir Edwin. Mitohclson, who is til, wa,s granted leave of absence for the remainder of the session by the Legislative Council yesterday, the Press Association reports.
Mr Norman H. Murray, formerly of Bell Block School, who has been appointed headmaster at Tawhiti' School, took up hisi new duties to-day. Mr John Dash, M.A., newly appointed principal of the. Hawera Technical High School, arrived from Palmerston North at the beginning of the week.
The recently appointed senior school inspector, Mr A. Bain, 8.A., has commenced duty in Taranaki. Last year Mr Bain was acting-senior inspector at Dunedin. He will reside at New Plymouth.
Advice wa<s received in 11 aw era last eveninn- that Miss Marion Thomson, daughter of Dr. W. M. Thomson, and Miss Nancv Thomson, daughter of Mr Stuart Thomson, -of Dunedin, have completed their B.Se. degrees. Both studied at the Otago University. The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday of Mr j a. Farmer, a. well-known North Island horse trainer. The late Mr Farmer acted as private trainer to Mr \V. Et. Bid will, of the Wairarapa, for a, number of years, during which time he was responsible for the training of many successful horses.
The death occurred in Wellington on Monday of Mr Charles Alexander Laiv rence, of the architectural firm of Swan, Lawrence and Swap, Wellington Terrace. Just before Christmas Mr Lawrence decided to take a holiday, and left Wellington for Sydney, en route to Java, and Singapore. While on the steamer he became ill, and on reaching Sydney was taken to a hospital. After being treated there for .some weeks, he returned to Wellington a few days ago.
