In view of complaints which have been received regarding street noises, steps have been taken bv the General Committee of the Dunedin City Council to put into operation the provisions by the by-law which call for the issue of a permit by the council for the operation of any instrument for the purpose of advertising any trade or business if such instrument may be heard from any street or public place. Proprietors or businesses concerned have been notified to this effect and informed that any permits issued will be subject to the following conditions: 1(a) That the machine by which the sound is produced he placed within the building, and not less than five feet from the doorway entrance to the building; (b) that the sound be so modulated as not to be audible on the street within a. radius of 33 feet from the position occupied by the machine by which the sound is produced
