CHALLENGES TO MINISTER
SOUTH AFRICAN ASSEMBLY OFFERS TO CONTEST SEAT NATIONAL CABINET URGE. DESIRE FOR COALITION. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegrapt Copyright.) Received 12.40 p.m to-day. CAPE TOWN, Jan. 30. There was a sensation in the Assembly during the debate -on the motion of General -Smuts advocating a National Government. The Minister oi Agriculture, Mr. Kemp, attacked Dr. Rc-itz, who was identilied with Judge Roos, declaring he should have resinned instead of “sailing under false colours.” Dr. Reitz jumped to his feet and shouted he was willing to- resign and fight tlie Minister in his own constituency. Mr. Kempt continuing, stated that disaffected Nationalists were disappointed in not getting jobs. Two -other Nationalists repeated Dr Reitz’s challenge. The Minister of Finance said a coalition could not he brought about by trying to get rid of General Herb zog. The South Africa Party caucus is still negotiating With the Roosites who -offer -General Smuts six seats in a Cabinet of eleven, but insists that Judge Roos shall be Premier. If the negotiations fail the Roosites will form a centre party holding the balance ot power.
