SOCIETY RECOGNITION SOUGHT. OPINION AT NEW PLYMOUTH. A recommendation that. Mr H. A.. Anthony’s plucky rescue of Miss Monica Thorne from a very dangerous situation aft Paritutu beach on Sunday should bo brought to the notice of the Royal Humane Society through, the proper channels has been backed by a united request for recognition' from the various swi mining, life-saving and surf organisations at New Plymouth. - Mr M. Snrale, chairman of the committee of the New Plymouth Old Boys 7 Club, stated last night that Old Boys, Fitzrov and East End Surf Clubs were supporting the movement, which would; have to go through the Mayor (Mr H. V. S. Griffiths) and the town clerk of New Plymouth direct to the Humane Society‘in England. The matter had also been brought to the notice of officials of the Taranaki centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society and the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Surf Association, who had promised whole-hearted support. The rescue in which Air Anthony was the central figure was staged at a bathing place along the coast behind PaTitntu rock on Sunday afternoon. Miss Thorne and Mr D. AtcMey were washed' from shore by a strong sideways set and Air Anthony sot oat to bring them buck. Air Atciiley reached shore unaided, but Afiss Thorne fainted, she and Air Anthony being carried several l chains to sea and further along the beach before Afr Anthony could struggle ashore with his reviving patient. He then entered the sea at the original spot to advise those who had taken, out the line and, belt and were searching for Afiss. Thorne and himself that everybody was safe. Sunday was not-the first occasion on which Afr Anthony has played a part in a rescue in the surf. He has figured prominently in .several rescues on New Plymouth beaches during recent years.
