FOUR LIVES LOST IN SURF
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TRAGEDY. SEVEN OF PARTY ESCAPE, (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) ADELAIDE, Jan. 30. Four people were drowned in South Australia’s worst surfing tragedy at Port Noarlunga, and seven others had remarkable escapes. A party were surfing near the entrance to the Oakoparinga River when a huge wave and a .strong undertow carried bathers out to sea. Life-savers and onlookers effected a gallant rescue.
The dead are Daphne Dodd, aged ten. Mavis Dodd, aged 14, C. Bowen, aged ‘2d, and Ray Kennedy, aged 23.
The father of the Dodd sisters rescued a third daughter and his son.
