WARNING TO MINERS
LOUD-SPEAKER GRAMOPHONES. SYSTEM IN SOUTH WALES. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 12.55 p.m., to-dav. LONDON, Jan. 29. The manager of a. South Wales coal mine after hearing a wireless broadcast of an SOS signal, said he was convinced warnings were more effective through the ear than the eye as printed notices were read once and then overlooked. He has had gramophone records made and when the miners begin duty they are received with: “Hello! Manager calling. Safety first. Search your pockets for matches and see the safety lamps are in good order,’’ etc. % Minor accidents already have been reduced and the Ministry of Mines is considering: the adoption of the method through the country.
