(From Our Own Correspondent). GENERAL AND PERSONAL. The weather lately has been very local, one part experiencing heavy rain a,nd adjacent areas being left dry. In a journey of twenty to thirty miles around the mountain the traveller would pass over stretches of wet road alternately with dry spaces of a few miles. The thunder storm and heavy rain reported in Hawera on Sunday ol last week was not felt in the Te Kin district where the conditions were those of a typical summer’s day. Master Jack Hargreaves of Wanganui lias been spending his school holidays with his uncle, Mr. H. Hat greaves. . , „ Mr and Mrs L. J. Nobhs and famny have returned from Auckland where they spent a month of the vacation. Nurse Smith of Auckland, who lias been spending a short holiday with her neice Mrs. T. J. Coxhead, has returned to Tariki before proceeding home Mr. Geo. Tindle of the Waikato has been visiting his brother Mr. b. 'Tindle. Mrs. Grainger who had recently undergone an operation, has returned home. , Miss Abraham spent a short holiday with Mrs Stan Hodges recently. Mrs. J. .Gould who has been seriously ill in New Plymouth hospital lias shown considerable improvement. Mr. El. A- Collins is about again after his illness. . , .. , . , Much regret is felt in the district over the death of the Rev. H. J. Fl®, cher, who had endeared hiroself to his congregation m this part of his parish during his term in Opunake. In addition to liis activities as published lerentlv in the “Hawera Star” Mr. Fletcher was instrumental m •establishino- the Turnkina Maori Girls School" and in the great work that school is doing truly “his name shall live.” . . . The haymaking season is nearly o% ci and record crops are reported this year. Several farmers were luifortunate in having the crop down when the rain came and some was out for a week. The good rains proved very beneficial to crops and pastures alike.
