WAITARA WINDOWS BROKEN

DISTURBANCE AT MIDNIGHT. STONES THROWN. FROM ROAD. Shortly before 12 o’clock last night two windows in The residence of Mr. F. S. Eiwens at AVaitara were broken as the result of stones thrown from the roadway. Chase was given but all that the pursuers could see were shadows fleeing up the road. The whole family was in bed when the stones were thrown. Mrs Ewens and her two daughters, Doris and Nancy, occupied the front bedroom. They ’had put out their light a little time before, and fancied they heard people talking. Then, without warning, the six-paned bay window was attacked, one stone smashing a leadlight and another a easement before the assailants fletl. Mr. Eiwens found glass scattred' three or four yards inside the room and two rounded beach stones, one four 'feet inside the room and the other outside, which he considers were the missiles used. Mr. Ewens is president of the Waitara freezing workers’ old union.
