CALL FOR SELF RELIANCE
GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S ADVICE. TOO MUCH LEANING ON STATE. (By TeJcß’mph—frenn Association.) EKETAHUNA, .Tun. 27. Thu Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe paid a abort official visit to Eketahuna this afternoon, when his Excellency addressed a large gathering in Air A. H. Harbert's grounds. He struck an optimistic note in respect to economic conditions, which he said were bound to improve, and hoped for a gradual recovery. The necessity of being fully prepared to take advantage of improved conditions was stressed. .Lord Blediski'O regarded the "World Economic. Conference as one of the most hopeful signs. The year had commenced with a gleam of real sunshine on the horizon. He deprecated exclusive nationalism as against patriotic nationalism. The present was not the time to accentuate differences in outlook, but was the time to stand shoulder to shoulder till the period of adversity passed and solidarity was established. The Governor-General advocated selfreliance instead of dependence on the Government. The danger at the present time was to depend too much on the Government, with too little selfreliance.
His Excellency arid Lady Blcdisloe spent some time in conversation and were then entertained by the -Mayor at afternoon tea. They left later for the Wairarapa.
