“Snow in Harvest,” by Joanna Cannan (Hoddor and Stoughton). In tins novel by a skilful writer tragedy, romance and humour, sympathetic characterisation, and excellently handled narrative combine to make a -story which is as convincing and appealing us it is readable.
“Sunset Pass,” by Zane Clre.v (Rodder and Stoughton, 3s (id). The fact that Zane Grey, who has been called the master writer of the western story, is again fishing in New Zealand waters will add interest to this cheap edition of one of his recent and most characteristic romances of a lawless land. The ranching drama is staged in Sunset. Pass with its gorges and purple timber uplands. Returning to \\agn tongue, where ho had left the reputation of a killer. Trueman Rock meets and is attracted by Tliiry -Preston, but--suspects some mystery in lier life, and when he discovers that old Gage Preston is butchering stolen stock, and realises that only the killing of Thiry’s terr ible brother Ash can free Tliiry and her familv from the vengeance of the Cattleman’s Association, lie sidestems the issue as long as possible, bv.tfina’lv has to far-e it. and all ends well tor him and Tliiry.
