SUM OF £IOOO DISTRIBUTED. AGENT’S BUSY DAY. LONDON, Dec. 24. “I hud £IOOO given to me at break-fast-time on condition that- it was spent immediately,’’ a visitor told the “News-Chronicle.” “The money went in six hours, and here are the receipts. ” It was elicited that the donor was a woman in Scotland, who had posted a. cheque for charitable distribution through a recipient who, owing to the omission of a street number in the address, received it a day late, after the post office had opened the envelope to ascertain a means of delivery, and endorsed it, “Cheqiie for £1000.” The recipient hurriedly shared, gulped down liis breakfast, and rushed to the city. He verified the existence "of the donor’s bank account and began his duty as a vicarious Santa Claus by giving £2OO to aid the West Ham Mission Church’s relief scheme. Next he made a donation to Stepney crippled children, and then to residents of Whitechapel who are dependent on the gallant efforts: of a clergyman ancl his wife. . - , The Coster Mission was aided, and the- benevolence ended with £IOO here and £SO there, disseminated through the Women’s Charity Bureau The city distributor finally posted the receipts to the Scottish, donor, feeling that it was the best day’s work ho had ever done.
