YACHTING CUP CONTEST
FIRST RACE OF SERIES. LYTTELTON BOAT WINS. fßv 1 —Press Association.) •CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 25. The first race in the Cornwell Cup series was sailed at Lyttelton, the Lyttelton holders winning by 6Ss from Christchurch, with Auckland third. The course was intended to be windward and leeward, but the vagaries of the wind made it impossible to define it as such. The Lyttelton boat led almost throughout, Wellington having the lead for a brief period at one stage, but losing it through mishandling of the sail, which dropped into the water. The Plimmcrton competitor retired.
