REPLY MADE TO CORONER
CITY INQUEST COMMENT. STATEMENT WAS AVAILABLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. The manager of the Tramways Board has replied to the coroner’s comment on the refusal of a tramway employee to make a statement to the police concerning an accident. “There lias evidently been, some misunderstanding in the matter as the result of the motorman being away on account of sickness and also because the Tramways Board solicitor was absent on holiday,” he says, “It has been the practice of the board to supply the names and addresses of witnesses to the police as was done in this case, and it was a complete surprise to hear that the police had not secured a. copy of the motorman’s statement to the hoard, which was available.”
