RULES OF THE ROAD
BREACHES OF TRAFFIC LA AYS. TAYO CASES TN COURT. Proceedings were taken against Robert Charles Millwnrd, of New Plymouth, company manager, in the Hawera Magistrate’s Court yesterday af ternoon on charges (1) of failing to give right of way to traffic on his right, and (2) of failing to keep to the left, of the white line placed midway on the roadway- at the intersection of Wnilii and Glover Road. Action arose following a collision at the intersection on January- 10 when both the defendant’s car and that driven by a Palmerston North resident, AVcsley Richards, were damaged. The first charge against Alii 1 ward was withdrawn and a conviction was entered on the second, defendant being ordered to pay costs amounting to £5 3s lOd.
Sergeant J. Henry conducted the prosecution and pointed out that had the police known Alillward did not intend to defend the action there would have been no need to bring two witnesses from Palmerston North. lii a second ease oi a breach of the motor regulations, AVilliam Eliason was ordered to pay costs amounting to £± 3s 2d for failing to keep to the left of the centre oi the road where this was practicable. Action.arose as the sequel to a collision on the Alanaia Road between Eliason’s motor cycle and a car driven by Florence Shaw, ol AVangnnui, a masseuse.
