TARANAKI OPEN TOURNEY PLAY OF THIRD DAY. ELE VEN TEAM'S ENTER'FINALS. Thu ninth round, of section play in the Taranaki Centro bowling tournament at New Plymouth concluded last, evening and eleven teams will compete in the finals under the two-life system at the Vogeltown green to-day. Of the eleven teams only two went through with one loss—J. Goldstone (Wanganui) and Tt. Boulton (West End). The other l inks comprise A. K. Smart (New Plymouth), .7. Lobb (West End), A. C. Smith (Park), H. Cottier (Inglewood), J. McNeill (Fitzroy) and «T. Turnbull (West. End), all with seven wins and two losses, while in Section iB, J. Buchan (Te Aroha), T. Williams (Fitzroy) and A. Higgs (New Plymouth) alltied with six wins and three losses. Conditions could not have been better for the third day of the tournament, yesterday, the greens being in fine order and very lively. Some splendid bowling was witnessed, applause being frequent. So far as the South Taranaki teams were concerned, the seventh round in Section A saw Goldstone maintain liis load to eliminate T. Corkill (Hawera) by 27-17 after being in the lead all the way. Defeating F. Julian (Piliama), A. Iv. Smart earned his right to contest t.lie finals. A. C. Smith (Park) had to light, hard to prevent Skoglund (Stratford) eliminating him. The game fluctuated. Lobb entered the final round certain of his place in post-section play, whereas Smith (Park) had to beat him to get in, and the Park skip succeeded after a great contest, an extra head being necessary. Lobb started away at a great rate and lead 17-4 on the 13th head. He remained statioriary wlillc Smith in seven heads added .15 to lead 1.9-17. Lobb added two in the final head to even, but Smith gained the needed point on the extra head. Boulton (West End) went on to defeat. H. Townslev (Hawera) in the . seventh round of section E at Paritutu green, securing a comfortable win. Boulton received his only defeat of the tournament at the hands of P. Jury, 22-14. He -easily defeated A. Dickinson. There were some close games in tllie last round, McLeod beating Townsley by a point. „ Detailed results were as follow:
