HAWERA SCOTTISH SOCIETY

ANNUAL PICNIC HELD. VISIT TO TE NGUTU DOMAIN. Between 150 and 200 members and friends attended the Ha Aver a Scottish Soeety’s annual picnic held yesterday at the historic Te Ngutu o’ te Manu Domain, a delightful day being spent amid lovely surroundings. in pastyears the society has patronised one or other of the several beaches on the South Taranaki coast but on this occasion the picnic committee selected a beauty spot inland, with facilities for picnicing beneath shady trees and a ramble through native bush -or a game of tennis on well-kept courts. The children were specially catered for and judging by the shouts and the laughter that echoed through the domain they enjoyed the outing. Excepting for an occasional light shower of rain the weather was fine and warm. ,

Tribute was paid by numerous visitors to the excellent work of the members of the committee, namely, PastChief J. E. Campbell, Mr. D. McCormick and Mesdames J. W. Velvin and J. It. Nairn, in organising the function. Careful attention was paid to every detail, including transport and the provision of milk, hot water, scrambles for the children and trophies, and the outing was regarded as one of the most successful yet held by the society. Members of the Hawera Highland Pipe Band, Pipers Bruce Henson, A. Wards, 1. J. Campbell, D. Campbell and G. Iteid, were in attendance and a number of selections were played.

During the afternoon a programme of competitive events was held under the supervision of Chief D. >G>. Smart and Past-Chief Oampiieli, assisted by members of the general executive of the society.
