Mr George Svme, who went into hospital a week ago for an operation, is progressing favourably. The Rev. J. C. W. Mutter, Inglewood, formerly of Hawera, was ordained a- priest at" the recent service at St. Peter’s, Hamilton, conducted by the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato.

Mr A. Wilson, chief stipendiary steward to the New Zealand Racing Conference, who- has been appointed to a similar position for the Queensland Turf Club, will leave Auckland for Sydney next Friday. The reappointment of Mr EL W. F. Gob ns as Conciliation Commissioner for a further period of three months from. A largo number of old personal friends from Hawera, Waverley, Waitotara and Moumahaki were present at the funeral on Wednesday of the late Air John Forbes Gillanders at the Waverley Cemetery. Thirteen full cars followed in the cortege from Hawera after a short service, conducted by the Rev. D. Morrison Sutherland at. the home of Mr F. Gillanders in Regent Street. They were joined by a large number at Waverley and followed to the cemetery on the bill outside the town, whore is the family burying ground. There the rest of the cere-1 nionv was performed by. Air Sutherland. , The bearers were Afessrs Jas. I .arm or (Waverley), J. Railton (Aleremere), J. Cahill, El Nixon, 0. Cudby and D. G. Smart (Hawera). Many beautiful wreaths were sent by friends as a last token of regard for one who had lived so long in the district.
