HAWERA SWIMMING CLUB

SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED. AFTERNOON SPORTS The official opening of the Hawera Swimming Club’s 1932-33 season was arranged to take place at three o’clock yesterday afternoon, but owing to the poor attendance of members the proceedings were delayed 30 minutes un til the arrival of children from -ttie schooLs. Six events were decided. ‘The success of our activities during the season depends to a large extent on the weather and also on the loyal ico-operation of our members,” said the club president, Mr. W. A. Spra,gg : when declaring the season open. “Last season there were delays every club night but it is the intention of the committee in future to conduct these gatherings punctually. Swimmers who come late will find that thev have missed the bus.” Continuing, Mr. Spragg said that honorary membership tickets had .been printed and holders would Ire privileged to attend club nights which, in future, would not he open to the general public. The Baths Committee of the Hawera Borough Council was thanked for its interest in the welfare of the club arid in connection with certain baths irnprovei fTp.nt.st which, it was hoped, would soon ho effected. The baths custodian (Mr. J. Dow die) was comp.imented on the clean and tidy appealance of the baths and he was thanked for his past services to the club. An apology was read from Mr. H. G.
