A visitor to the Kaupokonui Dairy Company annual meeting yesterday was Mr A. 11. Parkinson, formerly store manager for the company. Mr Parkinson left later for the South.

At the monthly meeting of the Hawera Municipal Band last night votes of condolence were accorded the conductor, Mr H. C. A. Fox in the death of his father in England, and Mr Jas. Champion in the death of his wife. At a meeting of directors of the T. L. Joll Dairy Company yesterday, Mr H. A. Lennon, the company’s auditor, was appointed acting-secretary and Mr T. F. McKenzie was appointed the auditor until the appointment of a permanent secretary, when Mr Lennon will resume his ordinary duties. A tribute to the work in the dairy industry of the late Mr Andrew Lees, of Okaiawa, was paid at the annual meeting of the Kaupokonui Dairy Company. The chairman (Mr E. T. Burke) "said that Mr Lees was a man of very high character and one whom it would be very hard to replace in the industry. The meeting adapted a resolution of sympathy with the bereaved felatives, all standing in silence. In proposing a vote of thanks to Mr W. D. Gulliver, a director of Kaupokonui Dairy Company for several years w r ho had not been returned for the coming year, the chairman (Mr E. T. Burke) stated at the annual meeting yesterday that (Mr Gulliver had given excellent service to the company and had always been one of the most loyal members. The motion was carried by acclamation.

In making his awards in the' recital in character section, lady or gentleman, at the Wellington competitions last week, the judge said the winner (Miss F. Whittaker, Khandallah) gave a very excellent performance, but Miss 'Winifred Quin (Hawera), who was second, would have won had her enunciation been clearer. Her characterisation of Ophelia was one of the finest studies that he had seen for many years, and he included the professional stage-.
