AWATUNA

COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. (From Our Own Correspondent.}On Thursday evening last a very jolly party was held in the Aiwatuna Hall, when Mr Jim Carbis celebrated his twenty-first birthday. The evening was pleasantly devoted to dancing, the music being supplied by Mr Jack Hooker. Nurse Carbis played extras. Mrs Carbis wore a pretty black georgette frock. A number of games were played, including the, ‘‘poisoned -stick,” which was won by Mrs Williams. A Monte Carlo waltz’ was won by Mr and Mrs Ray Smith.

The supper tables' were tastefully decorated with spring . flowers and greenery, -while a large birthday cake, surmounted by 21 candles, held pride of -position on the table and, was cut by the -guest of the evening. Speeches eulogising the good qualities of Mr Jim Carbis and his parents were given by Messrs D-oug. Kind, A. Collins, Clements, A. Hodge and Niccolls. Many nice presents were received. Mr Collins presided while the toasts were being given. Mr J. Hooker sang two songs and gave a humorous item.

TENNIS DANCE. On Saturday evening another popular tennis dance was held, and a large gathering enjoyed the old-time and modern dances. Mr Jack Hooker provided the dance music in liis usual popular style, while extras were played by Miss West. A good supper was provided. PERSONAL. Nurse M. Carbis, of Harwera- Hospital, is spending a few days with her parents. Mr and Mrs Carbis. On Thursday evening Mr A. Collins related reminiscences- of Awatuna 40 years ago, when he and- Mr Carbis worked together in the bush. Mr Ray Walker, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs M. Bourke, has returned to his home in- New Plymouth. Mr and Mrs “Bus” Castle and their daughter and little soil are visiting Mr and Mrs -G. U. Lus combe, Kapuni.
