* Mr. C. H. Burnett, of Wanganui, spent the week-end in Haw era. Mr C. F. Spray, herd tester in the Eltham district, has been transferred to Stratlimore-Makahu area.
At a meeting of the Park Bowling Club committee on Friday last, a motion of condolence with the relatives' of the late Mr A. Lees was passed. Mr Lees was a member of the club. The funeral of the late Mr. Samuel J. Pivac took place on Saturday afternoon from the Hawera Catholic cliurc-h. There was a" large gathering of relatimes and friends who followed in the cortege to the cemetery. Many beautiful wreaths were sent. The Rev. Monsignor Cullen officiated at a Requiem Mass in the church and also at the graveside, and the bearers were Messrs P. Jackson, J. Goodwin, G. Mackay (Hawera), J. Vodanovich (Wanganui), and M. Kurta and M. Dean (New Plymouth). The cortege included friends from New Plymouth, Wanganui, Stratford, and Palmerston North, in addition to many from the Hawera district. Maori friends made a lament at various points on the route to the cemetery. Mr. Pivac, who was born at Podgora, Dalmatia, Jugo-Slavia, came to New Zealand about thirtythree years ago, after a short stay at New Caledonia. He was at Auckland for a brief period, and then successively at New Plymouth and Stratford before settling in Hawera twelve years ago.
