The “Daily Express,” the “Daily Herald” and many newspapers in Lancashire are demanding immediate Government intervention in the cotton dispute. . The Ministry of Labour says neither side has sought its assistance. When its services would be welcomed and usefully applied they would be offered with alacrity. The strikers now number 169,090 of 230,C00 employees. The operatives’ leaders are reported to be anxious for further mediation and “The Times” says quiet moves are taking place behind the scenes tc bring this about.
