CONTESTS ON RUAPEHU.

VISIT OF AUSTRALIANS',

Advice was received in Wanganui on Tuesday by iMr W. S. Rennie, secretary of the Ruapehu 'Ski Club, that the Australians, Mr Tom IMitchell, Mr Steve Tennant and Miss J. 'Tennant, will be present at tho New Zealand ski championships to be held at Natioal Park during the latter part of August. The cable also stated that it was possible that a team would also be sent from Australia, reports the “ Chronicle. ’ ’

'The visit will give added interest to the events to be decided at the 'Chateau. Air Mitchell is a prominent Australian ski-er and represented Australia in the first Federation Internationale de Ski Downhill Championship held at Murren, Switzerland, in February, 1931. lie has won the club championship of Victoria and is well known in the ski-ing world. Prior to coming to New Zealand he is to compete at Mount (Hotham, Victoria, in _ the inter-State and Australia National championships, which are to be held from August G to 13. ■Bohkings for August at the Chateau are heavier than they have ever been, a striking feature being the interest displayed by South Island alpine clubs. In addition to two Christchurch clubs, the Tasman Ski Club, of Timaru, will be sending a team to compete in the forthcoming New (Zealand ski championships about 25 South Island visitors having already arranged bookings. The New Zealand Alpine Sports Club will arrive at the Chateau on August 12 and the Ruapehu 'Ski Club on August 19. The North Taranaki and Mount Egmont Clubs will also be represented.
