CATHOLIC BALL.

Promoters of the annual Catholic ball in Kapouga have reason to be proud of and pleased with the results of their efforts on Tuesday night, when there was an excellent attendance of local people and visitors from all over the district. . there should be a substantial surplus for the funds of the parish. A feature of the evening was the excellent home-made supper provided by the ladies of the parish. The supper tables were decorated with Iceland poppies and green leaves, while the stage and hall looked very pretty with rhododendron flowers and greenery. The music was played by Jack Hooker’s orchestra, with extras by Miss E. O’Dea, Mrs A. McCracken and Mr B. Eliason.

A spot waltz was won by Mr R. McCarthy and Miss I. Eliason and a competition for a bedspread by Miss Mary O’Neill.

The last flag 500 evening held by the Anglican social committee attracted the largest attendance of the series, there being 11 tables engaged in play. At the conclusion of play it was found that the table occupied by Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Dagg, Mrs. H. A. T. Gallagher and Mrs. W.. Blackwell junr. were the winners. Following supper the floor was cleared for dancing, which lasted until after midnight to music supplied by Mrs. I. Evans, while Mr. R. A. Grace carried out the duties of M.C.

, In continuation of his missionary crusade to all parishes in the Waitotara archdeaconry the Yen. Archdeacon J. R. Young conducted a special service in St. Mark’s Anglican Church on Monday evening, when there was a fair attendance, and an interesting address was given. Mr. Pat. O’Donoghue, who has been on an extended holiday to relatives in the Te Aroha district returned home last week. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Jones, who. have been visiting the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Jones, have now returned to their home in New Plymouth.

Mr. AY. Hislop junr., of New' Plymouth, has also- returned home after visiting friends at Kapcnga. Mrs. J. Guy, who has been visiting relatives at Pungarehu, returned home last week.

Mr. A. Jones, of R'unanga, who has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Jones, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Sleeman and family, of Upper Manaia Road, are visiting Fcilding for a few days. They were accompanied by Mr. Jack Gardiner on the trip. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Wells have returned from visiting relatives at Otahuhu during the annual leave of the former.

The Kaponga postmaster, Mr. C. A-. Corder, left on Saturday morning on his annual leave, which is being spent in the Otaki and Wellington districts.
