RAILWAY WORKSHOPS BUSY

WORKING DOUBLE SHIFTS BUILDING OF NEW ENGINES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 6. The Hutt, railway workshops are so husy that a double shift is. being worked, every machine being fu],ly manned and worked at full capacity. Tbe activity in the shops is partly due to the commencement of the construction of 3Q nqw locomotives of “K” class. It is also largely due to the policy of importing raw material and making in the shops many parts which hitherto have been imported. No attempt has been made by the Government previously to build locomotives anything like the size of the “K” engines. The locomotive is designed to do away with ‘ ‘double-heading’ ’ which now takes place on all the main terminals, and it will also make for a general reduction in working expenses.
