At the euchre party held at the Turuturu school on Thursday the winners were as follow: Ladies. Mrs. r. Jackson 1, Hiss I. Prime 2; men, Mr P. Duggan 1, Mr. Edwards 2. 'Supper was served under the supervision of the ladies.

Mr A. L. Campbell, of Fraser Road, who has been indisposed and confined to his home for some days past, is making steady progress towards recovery from his illness, but it is not expected that he will he able to leave his home for some time.

Mr Walter Newton, secretary of. the Labour Department since March, 1930, has retired on superannuation, states a Press Association message from Wellington. The department is . now under the control of the Commissioner of Unemployment, Mr Godfrey.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Hawera Debating Society will be held in the Law Society’s library, courthouse, on Monday at 7.45 p.m. There will be a debate between selected teams on the subject. “That' the present system of post-primary education be abolished.” Hie motion will he placed before the meeting for debate at the conclusion of tlie speeches by members of tlie teams. The opportunity was taken at the meeting of the management committee of The Taranaki Rugby Union last night to congratulate Mr. R. Clarke. (Okaiawa) and Mr. A. Collins (Stratford) on their inclusion in the All Blacks. In presenting each with a travelling rug the chairman of the union (Mr. >T. McLeod) stated that they would he following a line of i'lustrious Taranaki players, hut none of them had shown greater promise than Messrs. Clarke and Collins. With the experience gained in the trip to Australia- they should have an opportunity of securing a trip to Engl and in a year or two and ho wished them every success on behalf of the clubs in the niovince.
