MONSTER BALL ASSEMBLY

OVER SEVEN" HUNDRED GUESTS PLAIN AND' FANCY DRESS. (BRILLIANT SCENE AT TOWN HALL. A scene of unprecedented brilliancywap unfolded at the Manaia Town Hall, last evening on the occasion of the Manaia, town jubilee and State school golden, anniversary plain and fancy dress, ball. The auditorium and stage and adjoining refreshment rooms were decorated throughout on a most lavish scale and provided a kaleidoscopic background for the beautiful frocks worn by the ladies. It was estimated that over 700 guests attended and the overflow of dancers from the main hall was accommodated in another building across the street, as well as on the stage.

Overhead were long trails and circlets of greenery interspersed with illuminated hanginrr baskets of red and orange paper ■flowers and f-ems auci large Chinese lanterns. Hopes of colloured lights were suspended from corner to corner of the hall and the walls were festooned with greenery and hung with long mirrors. On the stage the walls were panelled with bamboo and great clusters of red and orange flowers hung from the ceiling. The same colourful scheme or decorations was carried out in the supper room, and the. long tables were adorned with greenery and late autumn. flowers. In the Oddfellows’ Hall there was a canopy of streamers overhead and the tables .carried tall vases of flowers. Supper was provided in six sittings and the ladies- in charge performed' yoemau service in catering for the. guests. Music for the- dancing was supplied by Wills’ Melodymakers Orchestra. . Debuantes included Miss Lesly A. Hotter, of Hawera, who wore white satin- and a fur-trimmed coatee and carried a coloured Victorian posy.
