Sarazen won the British open golf championship with a record aggregate of 283. SIXTY-FOUR IN FINAL ROUNDS. LONDON, June 9. Sixty-four with scores of 154 and under qualified for the two final rounds of the British open golf championship at Sandwich. The leaders are Sarazen 139, Alliss 152, Compston( 0. A. Whiteombo and Davies 144. The others include: Armour, Havers, Robson, 145; Cotton, 146; MacDonald Smith, 147; Torrance, .Padgham, Mitchell, 148; Perry, Easterbrook, R. Whitcombe, Hartley, 149; Hodson,, 150; Bradbeer, 151; Curtis, Ray, Dobson, MeRuvie, 152; Twine, Dallemagne, Taggart, McMinn, 154. Those who failed to qualify included Miyamoto 158, Dimcan 160, Do Forest 166. Michael Scott made no return.

Windless midsummer weather favoured low scoring. Sarazen achieved a record for the first half of the championship with 139. Bobby Jones - 140 at St. Andrew’s in 1927 was the previous best. Sarazen admitted that his great second round was partly due to patches of good luck, but it included a number of brilliant recoveries from awkward places. The greatest shot was at the 12th, where he sliced a drive into thick rough. A mighty ISO-yard heavy mashie shot put him on the edge of the green. He laid the approaches dead, needing only one putt on five greens. . Alliss and Davies were terribly disappointing. Both had an opportunity of gaining the lead. Alliss craekod at the 15th. Davies, if he had secured par figures on the last five, would have returned 68j but in a melancholy finish he dropped a stroke at every hole.
