YOUTHFUL MAGICIANS
BOY AND THE LEMON. LONDON PRIZEWINNERS. Three schoolboys and a schoolgirl performed sleight-of-hand and mystery tricks at Maskelyne’s Theatre jn London with a coolness and deftness of touch that astonished professional conjurers, They were the finalists ;in the search which bad been made for the cleverest young conjuror in the country. Mr. Jasper Maslielyne, Mr. Noel Maskelyne, and Mr. Oswald Williams, the judges, awarded the winning prize of £5 to Richard Barrs, aged 12, of St. Mary Abbots School, Kensington. Robin Hood, of Brqadstairs, was so good that ho was given a special prize of two and a-balf guineas. The third boy was Laurence H. Lewis, aged 16, of Holborn Grammar School. The one girl finalist, Miss Par. la Baird of Hastings, received complete set of conjuring apparatus. Barrs performed a clever trick with a rope to which several handksrch.efs had been tied. Members of the audience held the rope and knotted it. Presto! The handkerchiefs fell 100.-ve. He also produced a ! playing - ard from a, lemon. Robin Hood’s card tricks won the admiration of Mr Jasper Maskelyne.
