MEMBERS’ WEEKLY SOCIAL. TALK ON-AVIATION. ■ The weekly social arranged by the E'gmont Alpine C'luh at the Winter Show Buildings in Hawera last evenin o- was held in conjunction with the Hawera Aero Club. Ping-pong players took charge of the two available tables while a court for indoor tennis was well patronised. An opportunity was afforded the . members of discussing recent club trips and of viewing a fine range of alpine and other photographs as well as studying the latest additions to the club library. Later in the evening there was a general • call to the fireside where Mr. Brian Haybittle discoursed on: a pig-hunting expedition undertaken by members into the rough country, beyond Meremere. The realities of the surrounding furn-clad slopes were described as‘well .asthe thrilling adventures of the party, when a wild pig was “put up” .from its sleeping place in a hollow log. Mi - Haybitde circulated a. number. of photographs and several tusks, including a pair mounted in silver which burned a perfect circle. , Flying-Officer lan Keith, who is at present in Hawera giving dying instruction to pupils of the Hawera Aero Club was welcomed and gave a ta Ik on the development of aviation -tie then mentioned a. flight over Mount Ecrm oni> and, amidst lan filter, said he preferred the aeroplane as a means _ot viewing the rugged grandeur of the mountain to toiling hour upon hour up its scoria slopes. A vote of thanks to the speakers was proposed by Mr. M. Shaw and carried bv acclamation. ‘The club cantain (Mr. R. Syme) expressed the hone that further talks would lie given bv Flying-Officer Keith and other Aero Club members on aviation and that it would he possible to secure a film, recording a flight around Mount Eomont for exhibition at one of the club’s socials.
