INQUIRY FOR N.Z. TIMBER
POSSIBLE 9,000,000 FEET ORDER LONDON NEGOTIATIONS .(By Telegraph—Press Association.! INVERCARGILL, June 2. An. inquiry has been received from England by sawmillers of Southland for 9,060,000 feet of Southland beech, to be used in the manufacture of motor bodies. On behalf of the sawmillers the iollowing statement was made, to-day by Mr D. Wesney: “An inquiry has been received from London, for a very large quantity of silver beech for motor body work. ‘lt is estimated that if the business is forthcoming steady work will be provided for 300 men on full time for about 18 months. This would embrace all the workers iii the beech areas. “If the order eventuates it will create a. boom in the industry, and besides providing labour for the men themselves. it will assist the railways and will provide work at Bluff. Indirectly several industries and various tradespeople would benefit.”. It is understood the negotiations are being continued.
