FIRE RAZES HOME | HUNTER ROAD RESIDENCE (From Our Own Correspondent.) The residence of Mr and Mrs Ron (Leaver, of the Lower Hunter Road, was gutted by fire on Sunday morning Mr and Mrs Cleaver and family lest about 10 o’clock to visit relatives in Katapeka and shortly before 11.30 neighbours' noticed smoke coming from what was thought to be the washhouse, but 6n closer inspection was found to be the house. The alarm was given by telephone, but by the time the neighbours arrived the building was filled with smoke. Nothing was saved.

BASKETBALL DANCE. The Old Girls’ Basketball Club held a very successful dance in the Matapu Hall on Monday evening, visitors being present from Opunake, Hawera and Eitliam; llack Hooker’s Orchestra supplied the music, while extras were played by Misses M. Guy and B. Seed. A Monte Carlo was won by Miss Scthwieters and partner. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY Mr and Mrs W. T. Seed entertained about 40 guests at tlieir home, Sheet Road, on Wednesday evening, in honour of tlie coming-of-age of their son Alec. Dancing and games, in a room decorated with ferns and chrysanthemums were enjoj-ed by a big proportion of the' gathering and another room was occupied with card tables for the entertainment of others of the guests. Music for dancing was played by the Misses Guy, W. Startup and B. Seed. During supper, which was served in the reception room several toasts were honoured. The enjoyable entertainment was continued until a late hour, the party breaking-up with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
