The annual meeting of subscribers to the Alton Library was held on Monday night, Mr. J. Gibbs, sen., presiding. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £4l 16s 7d. The election of committee resulted: Messrs J. Gibbs sen., Sadler, J. Kettles sen., J. C. Taylor, J. Gibbs jun., and Mesdames L. Hunt, A. Tilings worth and J.* Kettles ; secretary, Mr. Sadler; auditor, Mr. A. Allan. The newly-elected committee held its first meeting and reelected Mr. J. Gibbs sen., chairman.
