STRIKERS AND RELIEF
SUGGESTED RESTRICTIONS. SHARP CHRISTCHURCH COMMENT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) v CHRISTCHURCH, May 25. Strong disagreement was expressed 40k by several members of the North Canterbury Hospital Board to-day when a letter was read from the DirectorGeneral of Health urging all hospital boards to refuse charitable aid and relief to all men who had gone on strike or who had infused to work under the Unemployment Board's scheme. The Rev. J. K. Archer said the Director-General “should mind his own business.” He had no right to dictate to the board. Other members said the board got money from the Government and could not go against it. Mr. W. J. AValter said that women and children must be fed whether the men went on strike or not. The chairman, Mr. TI. J, Otley, agreed and added it was impossible to do that without feeding the men as well The subject as a difficult one. The letter was received.
