ATTEMPT TO WRECK TRAIN. DISCOVERY IK DARK. Discovered by mere accident, a mysterious attempt to wreck a train at Oxford was being investigated by the police a few weeks go. But for the fact that Mr. Harry Lee, nn engine driver, took a short cut along the nermanent way on his way to work in the early hours of the morning, the L.M S. mail train from Bletchlev, due at Oxford at 5.45 a.m.. would have crashed into two thick iron bars, 6ft long, which had been placed across the line near Walton "Wells bridge. Mr. Lee almost stumbled into the bars, and after examining them bv the light of an electric torch Tan to the nearest signal box. a quarter of a mile away, and gave the alarm. A partv of railway men immediately went out. but on accompanying them to the snot. Mr. Lee was astonished to find that one of the bars had been removed. Although an intensive search was made in the vicinity no Trace of anyone was found.

At, least two men must have been rermired to lift the bars and where tlm'- came from presented as great a puzzle as the identitv of the men concerned. The last train had passed the snot at 6.-15 on the previous evening.
