AUCKLAND RIOT CHARGES
LENGTHY TRIAL EXPECTED. FIRST WITNESSES CALLED. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.! AUCKLAND, May 23. In continuance of the first day’s proceedings in the Supreme Court trial of the 14 men charged in connection with the riot in Queen Street oil April 14, the Crown to-night called the first police witnesses, including Inspector Horlis, who detailed seeing injuries received by the police and described the rioting outside the town hall. The evidence was on the lines of that given in the Police Court, the police stating, that it was two hours before order was restored in the street. The hearing is expected to last a week.
