Mr T. 11. Walker, of Hawera, has been appointed judge of bacon for the dairy show at Palmerston North next month.

Senior-Sergeant S. J. Martin, of Dannevirke, lias been appointed to the charge of the Wellington South police station in place of Sergeant Hogan, who is to retire on superannuation. De-tective-Sergeant Fitzgibbon, Napier, will replace Senior-Sergeant Martin. The latter was stationed at New Ply-
mouth prior to his transfer to Dannevirke.
Mr. Hugh McAllum dropped dead in George Street, Dunedin, yesterday morning, states a Press Association message. Mr. McAllum. who was connected with J. Illots, Ltd., at Wellington some years ago, was for the past years manager of the Cash Provident Order Company at*Dunedin. He "■’s well-known in musical circles and in his younger days was a sucecessful lmavy weight-lifter. Mr. McAllum ■"•■is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. McAllum, of New Plymouth.
