DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. REQUESTS AT STRATFORD. A deputation of Stratford unemployed waited on the Hon. B. Masters, Minister of Education on- Saturday, asking for an increased allocation of unemployed funds for the Central Taranaki district and the elimination of the stand-down week. . The deputation maintained the cities should not receive special treatment, which was denied to the country districts. It was pointed put that the amount required to give all unemployed, men full time this week under the old No. 5 scheme was £254 19s, whereas the Timount allocated was £176 4s. It was said that the total number of men registered in January was 156, while to-day it was 263. Mr. Masters, in reply, said that he had already made representations to the Minister of Employment, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, and had received a telegram to the effect, that the amount approved was consistent _with the number of registered unemployed and having regard to that allocated for other areas. Mr. Masters said he was returning to Wellington early next week and would make a point of seeing Mr. Coates personally and_ discussing the position with him. The Minister pointed out that therehad been some criticism, but he had no hesitation in saying that Mr. Coates had a most difficult task and was doing - the .best he possibly oouM to meet the situation.
