Washer presiding over an attendance of 24 members. . In moving the adoption of the accounts and balance sheet for the year ended March 31, the chairman said that the forty-eighth annual show, held on the 18t : h and 19th November, 1931, was generaly considered by exhibitors and tlie public to be one of the _most successful shows that the association had held. The entries received constituted a record lor the Egmont Show and totalled 2078, an increase of cG on the 1930 fixture. North Island championships in the Friesian and Ayrshire cattle, Large Black pigs, and the Clydesdale Horse Society and the Union Steamship Company’s Cup tor the champion mare were competed for at the show, drawing competitors from all parts of the North Island. Ihe championships had resulted as iollows: Friesian: Bull,' H. E. Johnson, Tokaora, “Coldstream Domino lontiac”; cow, Technical High Stratford, “Coldstream Galatea Fayne. Avrshires: Bull, B. H. The attendance at the show was large and the gate takings showed an increase of £33 on the previous year. An honorary staff undertook the duties of ticket sellers and gatekeepers on the finst day and the thanks of the committee were due to Mr. H. E. Cressy who had carried out the duties of arranging and supervising this work under the auspices of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce and the Hawera Betailers’ Association, lhe committee also thanked the exlnbitois who so loyally supported the show dming difficult times. The terms and conditions tor the proposed sale of land to the Taranaki Buo-by Union, mentioned in last year s report, had been rejected by the union, and at present the committee was engaged in evolving a proposal for the joint ownership by the association and the Taranaki Bugby Union of part of the grounds. It was proposed to submit this proposal to the Rugby Union at an early date. In conjunction with the A\ anganui A and P. Association application 'had been made to the Minister of Internal Affairs for a permit to conduct a £4,000 art union to assist the funds of the two asociations. Up to the present the application had not been "ranted, but no opportunity was being lost of placing the association s | claims before the responsible autliontie]Vlr. Washer regretted that a loss of £42 8s Id had been made on the year’s working, and this could mainly be attributed to a falling off in membership subscriptions, due no doubt to ; the economic conditions existing. Ilie financial position of the association had been aided by the mortgagee, who had made a considerable interest reduction, while the secretary had also accepted a salary reduction. The thanks of the committee were 'due to Messrs. McL’Dowie and H. McWilliam for their excellent aohieve- ! ment in showing a profit of £lB odd on the year’s farm operations, especially as they had commenced the year with a handicap of £37. The generosity of Mr. McL’Dowie in advancing, free* of interest, the finance for sheep, had been particularly helpful. Thanks were extended to the ladies who had so ably controlled the produce shed and tie catering at the show; the judges, stewards and donors of special prizes, for their whole-hearted support; the press and the general committee. . , The motion was seconded by Mr. McL’Dowie and carried, STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS. AUDITORS’ CO MOMENTS

In their report the auditors, Messrs Walkley, Cameron and Laurence, pointed out that the assets were given at hook values and, as no depreciation had been written off the buildings for some years, the financial position of the association was quite unsatisfactory. With the present depression in values it would be obvious that the ex-

cess of assets as shown at £2169 15s Id was non-existent. It was again quite evident that the standing charges for overhead were higher than the show could carry and return a net profit as, although interest had been reduced by £l4O, the result of the year was a net loss of £42 8s Id. The auditors did not wish to further comment on the figures, as the committee was well acquainted with the position and they could only reiterate their remarks of previous years. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

Officers were elected as follow: President, Mr C. H. Washer; committee, Messrs A. Appleyard, J. Forbes, E. Death, F. Hoskin, H. E. Johnson, J. Kerrisk, junr., W. McL’Dowie, H. McWilliam. F.
