OXLEY THRASHES CROWLEY

It was a case of the pupil showing the master last night when Ted Oxley (Pahiatua) 9.71, completely overshadowed his former mentor, Jack Crowley (Wellington) 9.6, in a professinal boxing bout over ten rounds. There was a packed audience. Oxlev broke a bone in his left hand at the start of the second round and relied on his right, which put Crowley down in the fourth round, and thereafter Crowley was sent to the canvas no loss than six times until the ninth. Only gameness and a fighting instinct kept him on his feet. In reply to the referee’s query Crowley at last cried enough, and collapsed in his corner from exhaustion.
