MONTE CARLO RALLY

INT fill X ATT ON AL COMPETE!' CL PLACLXGS OF AUSTRALIANS. A brief cabled report has been received by the* Durdop-Pei'driau Company giving the result of the light car section of the 1932 international Monte Carlo rally. The light ear class (up to 1100 c.c.) was won by G. de Lava](>tte (Peugeot), with the racing motorist. Andre IJoillot (Peugeot), second, and iast year’s winner, V. X. Leycrett. (Riiey), third. Miss Joan Richmond (Itiley) finished 17th, and Miss Jean Robertson (Riley) 19th. Miss Robertson was fourth in the placing for the ladies’ cup. a much-covetcd trophy. In 1931 there were 149 entries, and G2 reached Monte Carlo. This year

there was sure to he a big field of competitors, and considering that the Australians started from Palermo (Sicily) and thereby handicapped themselves to the extent of approximately 19 points. M isses Richmond and Robertson did well to finish up as they did. A loss of 19 points at the .start, owing to selecting a southern route of 1111 miles as against the greater distance to be negotiated, say, from Stavanger. 2260 miles, would alone, on the tabulated result of the 1931 test, have placed the Australians 13th on the list, so that, allowing for the disability that had to be faced in selecting a short southern route to the _ famous Mediterranean resort, the Misses Richmond and Robertson put up really good performances in filling the positions they did.
