TOWN BOARD MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the Normanby Town Board, held on Tuesday night, there were present Commissionrs E. T. Peach (chairman), T. Evans and H. W. Glentworth.

Two ratepayers waited upon the hoard in regard to their accounts for outstanding rates. In both cases suitable arrangements were arrived at.

The appointment of Mr C. Hopkinson as ranger and dog tax collector was confirmed.

The clerk’s action in having the insurances adjusted was confirmed. It was announced that the extra insurance involved through payment of the unemployed wages had meant an increase of over £l3.in premium paid. It was decided to change the office day from Wednesday to Monday, as there'was no advantage being taken by ratepayers of the office being open on the half-holiday. The clerk was instructed to write protesting against there being bnt one representative on the Power Board for both Norm an by and Manaia. and also that the election for representative was to lie controlled from the latter town.

In order to provide extra lighting during tbe Normanbv Show on March 8 and 9 high powered globes are to be suspended in the street from Stafford Street corner to opposite the Town Hall.

An application to instal the talking pictures in the Town Hall was declined. the board considering that the extra expense involved in wiring would not be warranted.

Tt was decided that the question of the unemployed he reviewed on the completion of the road behind the railway station, members suggesting that the unemployed scheme locally should then eease. Accounts to a total of £35 12s wore passed for payment. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

On Monday night sub-committees of the Normanby Horticultural Society met to finalise matters in connection with the pony events and the tug-of-war.

There was a good attendance of the tug-of-war committee and it was unanimously decided to appoint the following officials: Judge, Mr W. McCook, Kaponga; timekeeper, Mr J. Bussell. Manaia; clerk of scales, Mr P. Linn; assistant. Mr E. P. Grant; officials in charge of board and ropes, Messrs T. J. Hurley and H. I. Jacks. Prizes are to be : First £2. second £l, with entry fee 10s per team of five men, who are not to exceed an aggregate of 00 stone. Teams and their captains will have fire admission to grounds.

The committee in charge of the school nnnv events anpointed Messrs E. R. Marshall and O. 11. Washer judges, with the remainder of the committee responsible for obtaining all necessary impedimenta for running the sports.

The following programme was eventnallv decided upon: Bending race around six pegs the distance of the field, potato race, bobbing race (apple in tub of water - ), racquet race, egg and sonon race, bending race for children leit school hut under 1(j years, parade for best bareback rider, and a mysterv novelty event, to he announced when riders are mounted for the event.

PERSONAL AND GENERAL. A letter received by the Horticultural Society from Air F. Gillanders, who is at present undergoing treatment at Rotorua, states that he docs not think he will he sufficiently recovered by time of the show to assist as judge in the farm and garden classes. A letter of sympathy has been sent from the society to Mr Gil-

landers, who is wished a speedy recovery.

Normanhy is being well represented in the choral department of the Hawera Jubilee, six of the residents taking part in the “Creation.” while Mr A. Galloway has been chosen as tenor soloist in the production.
