The weather was responsible for the postponement of the Tawhiti school picnic to Opunake yesterday and the Farmers’ Union picnic at the Kaupokonui beach to-day.
The Hi"h School cadet camp at the Hawera Showgrounds broke up yesterday at mid-day, a few hours earlier than was the intention of the officers, because of the continued rain. The hoys were very happy in the work and recreation _during the week and a most interesting and instructive period. Within the area reticulated by the South Taranaki Electric Power Board there are 2830 customers, the total connected load being 5200.420 k.w. No fewer than 301 industrial motors and 268 • milking motors are in operation and 67 electric ranges and 2094 heating and ironing points in use.
“A largo number of coloured lights have been installed iri Hawera for the Hawera Borough Jubilee Committee. Our own men and electrical contractors are giving their services in the evenings free of charge, and the adjoining towns arc supplying quite a large amount of material subject to breakages, packing and freight charges being made good,” reported the engineer (Mr T. 11. Overtoil) at the monthly meeting of the South Taranaki Power Board in Hawera last evening. The Hawera Retailers’ Association advertises that shops in Hawera will he closed from 11 a.m. on Wednesday next for the jubilee procession and sports, and from 1 p.m. on Thursday for the Maori entertainment at Tnru-turu-Mokai.
