social Assemblies. (From Our Own Correspondent). Several car loads of members of the Stratford Presbyterian Bible Class visited the To Kiri class recently. The visitors were pleased to see such a large class in a, country district. The ! secretary of the visiting class (Aiiss Jean Bre inner) was once resident m this district and was agreeably surprised to meet many old school mates in the Bible class. ' A dainty supper j. was dispensed by the local girls and j Mr. Earquahar thanked the Stratford members for their help and interest in the. newly formed classes. Another “cheer-u.p” social was given b - Mesdames Boy c l and H etchings at Awatuna on Friday evening. The first part of the evening was spent in a euchre tournament, the winners proving to be Aiiss Aland© Hughes, after putting; with Airs AI. Bourke, and Air M. Bourke. After supper the time was spent in dancing and party games, the music being supplied by Alisses Al. Hughes and A. Coxhead and Air. \Y. Coxhead. A Alonte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Phyllis Parkes and Master Robbie Alty. A competition for a. box pf chocolates was won by Bruce Boyd. Air. D. Lind carried out the duties of AI.C. After two postponements on account of the weather the local school girls journeyed to Kapuni to play basketball. They were defeated by 7 goals to 1, but although unsuccessful they thoroughly enjoyed the game. Messrs. Clements and Saved kindly conveyed the players to Kapuni. Airs. Kedgeiey is an inmate of the Kaponga hospital. Airs. S. Bankhead recently spent a week-end with her bister, Airs. K. Sharp at Patea. The monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was held at the residence of Airs. Farquliar on Thursday last. It was decided to donate a trophy to the Opunake spring show foi the best entry made with cheese. Arrangements were finalised for the concert to he held at Awatuna. on September 2. Airs. Templeton reported having arranged with a concert party from Hawera who had kindly undertaken to arrange the programme for the evening. The social committee ha,s issued invitations to an “old time” and modern dance to be held at Te Kiri on the 24th inst. A firstclass orchestra has been engaged and the evening promised to eclipse a similar one held last year, which proved most enjoyable. The travelling secretary of the Bible class union is to visit the local class on Friday, August 28, and an invitation is extended to other neighbouring classes and young poeple to meet her there.
