A Montreal message reports the death of the Hon. C. J. Doherty, exMinister of Justice, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Josiah Keys, a resident of Balclutha, will celebrate his 102nd birthday to-day. states a Press Association message. Mr. Keys still enjoys go-oil health. The death of the Rev. Sir John Dalton, Canon of St. George’s, Windsor, aged 92 years, is reported from London . The canon, after a distinguished career at Cambridge, was tutor to the Princes Albert- Victor and George (the present King) from 1871 to 1879. Latef he was a naval chaplain and held various Court appointments. The death occurred at Wanganui East on Friday last of Mrs. Frances Hodson, an old identity of Wanganui and Taranaki. With her husband the lute Airs. Hodson arrived at Wanganui by the .ship Collingwood on August 5, 1875. They took uy land at Tatarairnaka. after tbe Maori Wars and came to reside in Wanganui about- eightyears ago. The deceased leaves a widower and eight sons and four daughters—Messrs James, Thomas, George, Isaac and Charles (all of Wanganui), Edward (Patea), William and Robert (Rahotu) • Mesdames W. Km-th (Wanganui), W. Pyecroft- (New Plymouth], Mason (Napier), and Sweeney (Wanganui). There are 70 grandchildren and 53 great-grand-children. When Mr. and Mrs. Hodson arrived at Wanganui they had four children, one having died on the voyage to New Zealand. Their early days were spent in Taranaki, where conditions were much rougher than they are to-day, there being few roads at- that time.
