SHAKE IN EARLV MORNING MOST SEVERE FOR 23 YEARS NO SERIOUS DAMAGE PAUSED. (United Fress Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received lu a.m. to-day. LONDON, June 7. An earth tremor was felt throughout England at 1.30 this morning. No damage was done, but sonic, sleepers on upper floors in the provinces were thrown from their beds and crockery was broken. Alarmed people, especially villagers, rushed into the streets in their night clothes.The shock was apparently most severe in Yorkshire. It is believed it ■was the strongest experienced in England for 23 years. 'The motion was felt clearly for a minute, and. lasted altogether seven minutes. 'The city of (Hull was shaken and two houses collapsed, while many chimneys fell. At Manchester the police and fire brigade headquarters were shaken violently. London also felt the tremor which, however, was generally insufficient to awaken the great majority of sleepers and there was no damage beyond a burst watermain. Anxiety was felt for the safety of St. Paul’s, but was dispelled on an examination which revealed no trace of damage.

Thunder and rain wirfi curious colouring of the sky preceded the tremor in many parts of England. The shock was also felt in France; (Belgium and Southern Norway, but no damage was done.
