NEW PLYMOUTH TOURNEY. ABBOTT BEATS CONWAY. The first two rounds of the play in the championship and handicaps at Ncjv Plymouth w T ere completed yesterday on the AVaiwakaiho course in good weather. Many fine scores were registered. Conway, the New Plymouth crack, after returning a brilliant 76 in the morning, was unexpectedly beaten by E. AY. Abbott of Elthani in the afternoon. Conway’s card was extraordinarily even, two 38’s, equalling bogey and against Abbott, however, he was not playing sd well and Abbott was 4 up lat the l'lth and then later dormv four, iHe halved the loth and thus was 4 up and 3. There were some close matches in the AVaiwakaiho handicap. A. Sandel beat K. McFarlane at the 19th in the first, round and T. Ah Mackay won similarly in the second round against F. Currie. C. Carlson had two close contests in the Ngamotu handicap, defeating J. Morrison at the 19th hole in the morning and beating H. AY. Kirkby 1 up in the second round. AV. B. Glasgow’ won the morning bogey handicap senior division with a good score of 3 up and L. H. Russell returned a good card of 2- up in the junior division. i Most pairs in the afternoon four- [ ball game returned scores better than bogey. The winning pairs tied with 5 up.
