LABOURER'S TWO MARRIAGES

“If everybody got on as well as we du nobody would ever quarrel,” recently said Airs Nelms, the second •wife of Mr Henry Nelms, of Towersey, Buckinghamshire. Mr Nelms lias had 12 children by iiis first wife and 18 bv his second. Seven of the 30 children are married, and 16 are living at home with their parents. Two of the three boys who served in the war were killed. One child died at birth, leaving 27 still alive. The eldest son is now in India. There were in all 17 girls and 13 boys. The famiy consumes eight pounds; •of margarine, 16 pounds of sugar, 40 large loaves, and three big joints of meat every week. Three large bars •of soap are used weekly for washing purposes. Air and Mrs Nelms and family live in two cottages containing.seven beds, for tlie grown-ups and cots for the I vounger children. There are six chil-1 idren still at school and three babies j at home, the youngest of whom is 181 months. Air Nelms, who is a labourer, was under 21 years of age when he was first married. Since then he has been a chimney sweep and a farm labourer ; in fact, he has tried his hand at most trades. He is now 65 years of age. He has only recently left hospital.
