NORMANBY SHOW

SOCIETY’S 48TH EXHIBITION HIGH STANDARD OF ENTRIES RESULTS OF’ JUDGING An unusually high standard of exhibits conpensated for a decrease in entries in the Normanby Horticultural Society's 48th annual show, which opened this afternoon in ideal weather. In all sections the competition was l keen and there was a good public attendance. The cut flower section, always a feature of the show, was particularly attractive with a profusion of choice blooms, exhibits of antirrhinums, gladioli and dahlias, being really outstanding. The vegetable classes also provided an exceptionally good display for this period of the year, while if numbers lacked in the poultry section the standard of the birds more than made up for that deficiency. In every section of the show the exhibits were displayed to best advantage, and the organisation was a credit to the secretary, Mr H. D. Hughes. Mr IT. Betts, Okaiawa, completed 47 years of unbroken attendance, when he judged in the pot plants section. Mr Betts, who is 94 yeans of age, was present at the second shbw held in 1885 and for many yonrs was a prominent exhibitor and judge. Results up to the time “The Star” went -to Press are as follow :
