AUROA

W.D.F.U. GATHERING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Wednesday afternoon a large gathering was present at a meeting of the W.D.F.Jj, at Auroa, when the recent conference was discussed and the president, read a paper on the making of a lock garden, detailing the preparation of. the ground, the placing of the stones, smaller ones, being in front, and the suitable varieties of plants and flowers to grow. Samples of barbola work and passe partout were also shown and explained. Arrangements were made for a dressmaking class, and a raffia afternoon will be held a little later on. Mrs J. Duff supervised afternoon tea. BENEFIT SOCIAL. A very successful dance was held on Wednesday evening to raise funds for the earthquake sufferers, visitors coming from many parts of the district. Messrs G. Bighnm and T. Graham acted as M’s.C. and Henderson’s Orchestra supplied excellent music, extras being provided bv Miss O’Dea and Messrs’ Coxhead and S. Nuku. The ladies provided a. first-class supper. A competition for a- cake was won by Mr OorkilT. SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC. On Saturday a large Sunday school party journeyed to the Otakelio and then on to the Kaupokonui beaches and spent a, very enjoyable day swimming and bathing. Lunch and afternoon tea were provided. Mr W. Haworth kindly conveyed the children in his motor lorry.

Mr Bailey (superintendent) and the following teachers organised the day’s outing: Mesdames J.. Duff and Lilley, Misses Duff, Lilley, R-. Kirk and Mr Lilley. Rev. Wilier, of Manaia, also attended and. presided.
